Advocacy

Kaia not only has a passion for music but also a heart for social justice and equity issues.  She has been recognized numerous times over the last decade as a student leader, organizer and person who takes charge to share her time and talent with others. She is unafraid to speak out and stand up for what is right, participating in:

·    Supreme Court, Pride and Black Lives Matter marches,

·    Advocating LCPS School Board for equity in arts funding

·    Discussions about gender and LGBTQ issues/policy with local and state political/ leaders

·    Volunteer work to help GOTV (get-out-the-VOTE)

·    Meaningful in-depth conversations about cultural awareness, the value of diversity

·     Strategic discussions to promote higher inclusivity

Kaia has also been a formidable advocate for menstrual equity, raising awareness and funding during and after the pandemic to assist the Loudoun Hunger Relief food bank restock shelves with pallets of feminine products and pads. Kaia uses her voice in more than one way to make change and everyone that meets her feels her genuine spirit and heart of gold.

The impact of earlier projects Kaia has led or contributed extends globally to include: Stop Hunger NowPennies for Peace, Adoption of an entire Thailand Kindergarten Class, to end generational illiteracy & impoverishment.

She took significant roles in numerous collection drives for Mobile Hope to support homeless students in Loudoun County or neighboring states. Most impressively she personally collected over 700 books and initiated a project with Home Depot to create a “mobile library” to allow all students the opportunity to own a book whether their parents could afford to buy them. Kaia believes that “books change lives,” and stories have the power to unite us.
